This project focuses on the impact of pay-to-play participation fees on youth access to school sports. A survey of parents oppinions of sports costs and educational impacts is the center of the project.
The purpose of this survey is to gain an understanding of parents’ oppinions of high school athletics, especially as costs of participation rise. The survey gives parents different price points and asks if they would encorage or discourage a high school athlete from participating.
Questions also cover parents overall feelings surrounding sports and participations affect on academic success.
Survey participants were also asked basic demographic questions. This includes household income, race, state lived in, and number of children.
Funding
This survey was funded through a scholars program grant from Colgate University. The survey project was approved by the university's institutional review board and is part of an independent research project.

The survey received 509 responses from a population of parents in the United States.
